How To Add Subtitles To a Video

We will use Aegisub to add subtitles to the videos. Working with Aegisub isn’t always easy, but once you’ve mastered it, you can quickly add subtitles to any video. Here we show you the basics of adding subtitles to videos.

We start by opening this page www.aegisub.org and downloading their official PC application. All you have to do is follow the instructions we give you:

Open your video

If Aegisub is installed on your computer, open it and click Video>Open Video. Select the video in the file manager and click Open.

You will now see the main subtitle interface :

  • On the left you will see the video you selected and opened. And on the right you can see the soundtrack. And underneath you get the subtitle grid, and here you get the time or duration of the video, the styling, the CPS and the text of each subtitle.

Selecting audio for subtitles

First, simply scroll to the first line of the audio track to which you want to add subtitles. Then you need to click and drag to select the first sentence you want to subtitle in the video. You can use the Video Spectrum Analyzer to set proper timing for subtitles.

Simply press the space bar or Play Audio button to play the sound from the selected location to the end of the selection. You need to adjust the start and end selections until the subtitles are integrated into the video and appear on the screen.

Subtitle entry

Then click in the subtitle editor and enter the words you want to display on the screen: You can add a line break by pressing Shift + Enter to move a text to the next line.

If the value of the characters per second is too high, ask your readers to leave in a very short time with a lot of text. This can be solved by splitting the text or splitting it into two different subtitles.

If you subtitle in MP4, you must save the subtitle file for later use. Click on the File menu and select Save or Save Symbol. When you save or export subtitles, they are ready to be loaded into the Media Player.
