The name of Microsoft’s founder is Bill Gates, which may be known to everyone, but the least known fact about Microsoft is that it was founded by Bill Gates in collaboration with Paul G. Allen. Allen and Gates were childhood friends and were computer programmers. Both translated BASIC, a widely used mainframe programming language used on the first personal computers (PCs), to Altair in 1975. Subsequently, in 1975, he successfully founded the company, whose name became Allen Micro-Soft, shortly before microcomputer software.

In 1980, the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) commissioned Microsoft to produce the software or operating system for its first personal computer, the IBM PC. Shortly after, Microsoft developed MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System), the first operating system in the world.

MS-DOS turned out to be a cash cow for Microsoft Corporation, generating huge profits and strengthening its market position after selling more than 100 million copies of the program in 1985.

Microsoft has the 2. April 1987: A separate version of OS/2 for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). By 1993, Windows 3.0 had become a world-renowned operating system and by 1995, according to research, about 90% of all computers in the world were running on operating systems developed by Microsoft at that time.

In 1995, the company launched Windows 95, which could be used by most children in the 1990s. Windows 95 was the first operating system to fully integrate MS-DOS into Windows, and it was the first to be compatible with Apple Computer’s Mac operating system. With Windows 95, Microsoft has squeezed virtually all competing companies out of the market.

Since 1995, Microsoft has marketed a number of other products, such as the electronic publishing division – Microsoft Print, Microsoft Network and MSNBC (a joint venture with the National Broadcasting Company, the largest US television network).

After the great success of the operating system and software, Microsoft launched Windows NT in 1993, a revolutionary program that offers reliable connectivity. As proof of its popularity and public demand, Microsoft has developed its own browser, Internet Explorer. This browser has surpassed almost all modern browsers, such as Netscape Communications Corporation’s Navigator.

The success of internet researchers is due to the free availability of the internet, which has encouraged computer developers to make their choices.  In 1996 Microsoft Explorer merged with the Windows operating system and began the process of integrating Explorer directly into Windows.

In 2001, Microsoft entered the gaming industry with the introduction of Xbox, an electronic game console that quickly gained market share. Young people around the world have gone crazy with Xbox, and thanks to that, in 2002, Microsoft Xbox Live, the broadband gaming network for its consoles, in 2005, Xbox 360.

In 2006 Microsoft launched a new operating system, Vistas, but unfortunately it did not work on the market due to compatibility issues. To overcome this market loss, Microsoft introduced Windows XP. XP was faster and much more stable than Windows 95 or 98 and Vistas, and it has tens of thousands of programs written specifically for that operating system.

After 2005, Microsoft experienced serious problems with Apple’s ios operating system, but Microsoft’s Windows operating system was still the market leader.

To strengthen its position and market share, Microsoft launched Windows 7 in 2009, Windows 8 in 2012 and Windows 10 in 2015. Windows 10 has a number of advanced built-in features that have prompted users to migrate to this new operating system.

Bill Gates, the founder of this American mammoth, led the company for 25 long years as CEO from 1975 to 2000. During his reign, the company reached new heights. With him, he laid such a strong foundation for Microsoft that after almost 45 years, the company is still one of the leading names in its field.

Bill Gates stepped down as CEO in 2000 and transferred the management of the company to Steve Ballmer. In 2006, he passed on the title of Chief Software Architect in the 1990s to Ray Ozzy, the lead developer of the Lotus Notes computer network software package.  In 2008, Gates withdrew from the day-to-day work of Ballmer, Ozzie and other managers, although he remained Chairman of the Board of Directors. Ozzy resigned in 2010 and Satya Nadella, a former Microsoft employee, replaced Ballmere as CEO in 2014.
